How to Strategically Set Goals

Have you ever set a goal for yourself, but ended up not following through? You’re not alone, we’ve all been there.

When we set goals, we give ourselves the opportunity to be better, but we must remember that setting goals is more than just wishing for it to happen, you have to put in the work. Goal setting is a process that requires focus and determination. Below is a list of some tips we have put together to help you set your goals and actually achieve them.

Set Goals That Inspire You

If your goals don’t motivate you, you’re not setting ones that are going to help you grow. Start by thinking about what is really important to you and then build out a list in your mind of the most important things you want to accomplish in the next 30 days. These goals can be fitness related or more personal just remember that you have to really want it if you plan to achieve it.

Set SMART Goals

You have probably heard of SMART goals before but if you haven’t, here’s what the acronym means and how it will help you reach success:

Specific – Be very specific with what you want to achieve. Goals that are clear and well defined will help you get a better sense of direction and where you are at in your journey.

Measurable – Be precise with your goals. If one of your goals is to lose weight, right down your exact goal so you can measure your progress.

Attainable – Always make sure to set goals that are within reach. Find a good balance between attainable and challenging enough.

Relevant – Make sure your goals are relevant to your current life. Having goals that are scattered far and wide will only cause you to lose your sense of direction.

Time Bound – Give your goals a deadline, this will give you the opportunity to celebrate your success instead of constantly chasing something.

Put It In Writing

When you write your goals down you are making them real. Grab a pen and paper and commit yourself to improvement.

TIP: Writing down why these goals are important to you will help you keep your focus.

Make a Plan & Stick to It

The only person who can control your destiny is you. By writing down the steps you plan to take to reach your goals you not only take control of your life, but you also now have a way to keep yourself accountable. As you work through your plan make sure to physically cross the items you’ve completed off your list. Doing this will provide you a visible representation of your progress and before you know it, you’ll be done and ready to crush a new set of goals!
