There are twenty amino acids total, and nine of those are essential to the human body meaning they can't be synthesized and produced naturally by the body. Instead, they must be sourced externally through eating protein-rich foods like eggs, fish, and of course meat. However, amino acid supplements are an easy and tasty way to get amino acids throughout the day as well.

Most commonly you'll hear aminos referred to as BCAAs, or branched chain amino acids because those are the most popular aminos and refer to the essential amino acids isoleucine, valine, and leucine.
